Vedanta Group Signs MoUs with 20 Korean Display Glass Companies to Boost India’s Electronics Manufacturing Hub
Mumbai – Vedanta Group has entered into strategic partnerships with 20 leading Korean companies from the display glass industry to accelerate the development of an electronics manufacturing hub in India. The agreements were signed during the Korea Biz-Trade Show 2023, organized by KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency) in collaboration with Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Akarsh K. Hebbar, Global Managing Director of Vedanta’s Semiconductor and Display business, presented plans for establishing a state-of-the-art display fabrication facility in India and invited Korean industry leaders to join the initiative. “We are delighted to sign MoUs with 20 companies engaged across the electronics value chain. India offers vast investment opportunities, backed by favourable policies, skilled talent, and a robust innovation ecosystem,” he stated.
Hebbar highlighted that the proposed electronics hub could attract over 150 companies, generate more than 1 lakh direct and indirect jobs, and position Vedanta’s greenfield display fab as one of its key anchors.
The event saw participation from Indian government officials, including H.E. Amit Kumar, Ambassador of India to South Korea, who emphasized that India’s electronics sector—expected to reach USD 300 billion by 2026—offers significant opportunities for Korean technology leaders. Manish Naik, Assistant Director, ICT & e-Governance, Government of Gujarat, showcased the infrastructure and incentives available at Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), India’s first industrial greenfield smart city.
This follows Vedanta’s successful Japan roadshow in December 2022, which resulted in MoUs with 30 Japanese firms.
