Tata Group Steps into Advanced 14nm Chip Manufacturing

Tata Group, in partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), has embarked on the development of cutting-edge 14-nanometer (nm) chip technology, further advancing India’s semiconductor capabilities. This initiative builds on their ongoing plans to produce 28 nm nodes at the upcoming semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat.

Renowned for delivering greater efficiency, speed, and power, 14 nm chips are particularly suited for compact and high-performance devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops. The collaboration will also focus on strengthening indigenous capabilities in assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP).

The Dholera fab will have the capacity to process 50,000 wafers monthly and produce three billion chips annually, serving sectors like high-performance computing, electric vehicles (EVs), and consumer electronics. The first chips are expected by end-2026.

In parallel, Tata Group is investing ₹27,000 crore in an ATMP facility in Assam, expected to generate 20,000–22,000 jobs. The Dholera plant alone is projected to create around 50,000 employment opportunities, contributing significantly to India’s semiconductor ecosystem and strategic self-reliance.
