Tata Electronics Partners with Tokyo Electron to Boost India’s Semiconductor Manufacturing
Tata Electronics has signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL), a global leader in semiconductor production equipment, to supply advanced tools and services for India’s first semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat and its upcoming assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam.
The partnership will span both front-end fabrication (wafer manufacturing) and back-end packaging (chip assembly and testing). As part of the agreement, Tata Electronics’ engineers will undergo specialized training on TEL’s state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring world-class production standards and operational excellence. Beyond manufacturing, the collaboration will support joint R&D initiatives to advance semiconductor process technologies. TEL also plans to leverage India’s skilled talent pool to set up engineering services in the country, contributing to its global product development efforts.
Tata Electronics is currently investing ₹91,000 crore in its Dholera Fab and ₹27,000 crore in the Jagiroad facility, marking a historic step in India’s semiconductor journey. These projects aim to power applications across automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies. Founded in 1963, Tokyo Electron operates across Japan, Taiwan, North America, South Korea, Europe, Southeast Asia, and China, serving the MAGIC market — Metaverse, Autonomous Mobility, Green Energy, IoT, and Communications. This collaboration represents TEL’s most significant engagement in India to date and is poised to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem, boost innovation, and position the country as a competitive player in the global electronics supply chain.
