Semiconductor Revolution: Tata Electronics & Synopsys Power India’s First Dholera Fab
Tata Electronics is fast-tracking India’s semiconductor ambitions with its INR 91,000 crore fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, through a strategic alliance with US tech leader Synopsys. This partnership, formalized via an MoU, is set to accelerate production and innovation at India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor fab.
Cutting-Edge Collaboration
Synopsys, a global leader in electronic design automation and silicon IP solutions, will help Tata Electronics build a state-of-the-art foundry design platform. The scope includes factory automation, data analytics, TCAD flows, process design kits, and IP development, ensuring faster, more efficient chip manufacturing.

Massive Scale & Global Reach
Developed in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC), the Dholera facility will produce 50,000 wafers per month for applications in high-performance computing, EVs, telecom, defence, consumer electronics, automobiles, and power electronics. Tata Electronics has already begun exporting chips from its Bengaluru R&D centre to partners in Japan, the US, and Europe, and is close to finalizing designs for 28nm to 65nm nodes.
Boosting India’s Tech Ecosystem
Alongside the Gujarat fab, Tata is investing in an ATMP unit in Jagiroad, Assam, expected to create thousands of jobs. With the global semiconductor market surpassing $150 billion, Tata’s entry—alongside moves from Zoho, Micron Technology, and others—signals India’s rapid emergence as a serious player in the global chip supply chain.
The Road Ahead
Backed by strong government support and global collaborations, the Dholera fab is slated to be operational by 2026, marking a transformative milestone for India’s electronics manufacturing sector.
