Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway 80% Complete; Set to Open in Early 2025
Ahmedabad: The 109-km Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, a ₹4,373-crore project linking the city to India’s first Greenfield Smart City, has reached nearly 80% completion and is on track to open in early 2025. Once operational, the expressway will slash travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera to just 40–45 minutes.
Starting from the Sardar Patel Ring Road in Ahmedabad, the route features an advanced 8-lane design (expandable to 12 lanes), dedicated interchanges, and extensive greenery along the corridor. The diamond interchange at the SP Ring Road is almost ready, with one side already open to traffic. Road alignment and the first blacktopping layer are complete, and roadside planting is underway.
Key engineering highlights include a 700-metre steel railway overbridge, nearing girder-launch stage, and major interchanges at Pipli — offering direct access to the Dholera International Airport — and Ambli, the gateway to Dholera SIR. The Adhelai interchange, linking Bhavnagar and the old Ahmedabad–Dholera highway, is already operational.
With signage, lighting, and landscaping in progress, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has confirmed completion within FY 2024–25, positioning the expressway as a critical infrastructure boost for Gujarat’s smart city ambitions.
