Navi Mumbai, Noida, Dholera Among 3 New Airports Set to Take Off in Next 3 Years

India’s aviation sector is set for a major boost, with 21 new greenfield airports receiving ‘in-principle’ approval from the government. According to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, three major airports — Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra), Noida Jewar (Uttar Pradesh), and Dholera (Gujarat) — are slated to become operational within the next three years.

The upcoming facilities in Vijayapura and Hassan (Karnataka) and Hirasar (Gujarat) are also on track for completion in the same timeframe. Over the last three years, 11 greenfield airports — including Mopa in Goa, Shirdi in Maharashtra, Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, and Kannur in Kerala — have already been operationalized.

The approved list covers projects across diverse regions, from Hollongi in Arunachal Pradesh to Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh, ensuring enhanced regional connectivity and supporting India’s growing air traffic demand.

Officials say these projects will not only decongest existing airports but also fuel economic growth, tourism, and trade by connecting emerging industrial and commercial hubs to domestic and global markets.
