Lam Research to Establish Office in Dholera, Supporting India’s First Semiconductor Plant
Lam Research India, the regional arm of the US-based semiconductor equipment giant, will open a new office in Dholera, Gujarat, to provide on-site support for Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor manufacturing plant — India’s first. The facility is being developed in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC).
According to Rangesh Raghavan, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Lam Research India, the move ensures immediate, localised technical assistance to address the complex needs of semiconductor fabrication. Lam Research’s advanced technology plays a pivotal role in front-end wafer processing — a critical stage in manufacturing semiconductor components such as transistors and interconnects.
A hallmark of Lam’s innovation is its Semiverse virtual fabrication platform, widely adopted for simulating and optimising chip manufacturing processes. As demand for electronics, AI solutions, and smart devices surges, India’s semiconductor market — currently valued at USD 23.2 billion — is projected to soar to USD 80.3 billion by 2028.
The project is bolstered by the Indian government’s 2020 Semiconductor Policy and its Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, offering substantial financial incentives to reduce import dependence and build a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem.
