Gujarat’s First Vande Metro to Connect Ahmedabad and Dholera
The Metro Rail Corporation is set to introduce Gujarat’s first Vande Metro service, connecting Ahmedabad to the rapidly growing industrial hub of Dholera. A feasibility study for the ambitious project is currently in progress.
Dholera is emerging as a major manufacturing destination, attracting over 100 companies, including Tata’s upcoming ₹91,000 crore semiconductor plant and a state-of-the-art chip facility by US-based Micron. To support this growth, the central government plans to launch a metro service offering fast, comfortable, and high-frequency connectivity within the 100 km range.
The Vande Metro, a shorter-distance variant of the Vande Bharat Express designed for urban and regional travel up to 250 km, will feature fewer stops to maintain high speeds — likely just four stations between Ahmedabad and Dholera.
Nationwide, the first Vande Metro is expected to debut next month, with the inaugural run planned between Chennai and Tirupati. Trials will commence soon. Dholera’s expansion also includes new highways, an international airport, and enhanced social infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, hotels, and other essential services, expected to be operational by next year. Improved rail connectivity is set to play a crucial role in attracting talent and accelerating industrial growth in the region.
