Gujarat’s Dholera Special Investment Region Nears Completion, Land Allocation Underway
Ahmedabad, Dec 12 — The Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), a flagship project envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, is rapidly taking shape as one of India’s largest and most advanced industrial cities. Jointly planned by the Gujarat government and the Centre, DSIR is strategically positioned between Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Vadodara, covering 920 sq km and encompassing 22 villages.
The first phase of the Dholera Industrial Smart City—spread over 22.54 sq km—has achieved 95% completion and is now witnessing active land allotment for industries. Plots ranging from 1 acre to over 330 acres are being allocated for sectors such as semiconductors, green hydrogen, defence, aerospace, auto components, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and more.
Part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC)—38% of which passes through Gujarat—DSIR is poised for global investment. Its modern infrastructure includes a 50 MLD water treatment plant, 10 MLD sewage treatment plant, 20 MLD common effluent treatment plant, master balancing reservoir, and integrated water management systems monitored by the City Integrated Operations Center.
A 4,400 MW solar park by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd, developed under the PPP model, will position Dholera as a renewable energy leader, aligning with India’s 2030 goal of generating 250 GW of green energy.
Connectivity projects are in full swing, including a 4-lane expressway to Ahmedabad (completion by 2024), metro rail, multi-modal transport hubs, a dedicated freight rail line, and the Dholera International Airport, set to handle cargo by December 2025.
Remarkably, 20–25 lakh tonnes of waste from Ahmedabad were used in building the Ahmedabad-Dholera highway—an initiative praised by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for its eco-friendly approach. With the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit scheduled for January 10–12, DSIR is set to be a showcase of India’s industrial ambition and sustainable development vision.
