Gujarat: Tata Group to Set Up Major Aerospace Manufacturing Hub in Dholera

The Tata Group, which is already establishing India’s first private-sector aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara in partnership with European aviation giant Airbus, is set to further expand its aerospace footprint in Gujarat.

Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced plans to develop a large-scale aerospace and high-tech manufacturing facility in Dholera, near Ahmedabad, once the site is operational. This expansion comes alongside the ongoing Vadodara project, where the final assembly line for the C-295 transport aircraft will be set up. The aircraft will be manufactured by Tata Advanced Systems, with 40 of the total 56 aircraft order for the Indian Air Force being produced in Gujarat.

Highlighting the significance of the project, Chandrasekaran said it represents the true spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ vision, marking the beginning of full-scale aircraft manufacturing in India’s private sector. The C-295 aircraft will feature indigenous electronic warfare systems, the ability to operate from short or unprepared airstrips, and versatility for troop transport, paratrooper drops, and medical evacuation missions.

The programme will involve collaboration with public sector units like Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited, and is expected to generate at least 15,000 skilled jobs. Chandrasekaran also noted a strong potential for global exports in the near future, reinforcing Gujarat’s position as a key hub for India’s aerospace ambitions.
