Gujarat Unveils India’s First Semiconductor Policy, Announces ‘Dholera Semicon City’
The Gujarat government has launched the country’s first dedicated semiconductor policy, offering substantial incentives to attract investments in chip manufacturing and display production.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with State Science and Technology Minister Jitu Vaghani, announced that the policy will remain in effect until 2027. A major highlight is the development of ‘Dholera Semicon City’ within the Dholera Special Investment Region near Ahmedabad, envisioned as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing.
Under the scheme:
- Land Subsidy: 75% subsidy on the first 200 acres for eligible projects.
- Water Subsidy: High-quality water at ₹12 per cubic meter for the first five years.
- Power Benefits: ₹2 per unit tariff subsidy for the first 10 years, plus full electricity duty exemption.
- Stamp Duty Relief: 100% reimbursement on the first land lease or transfer.
- Ease of Business: A single-window clearance system for swift approvals.
Aligned with the India Semiconductor Mission, the state anticipates creating over 2 lakh jobs in the next five years, positioning Gujarat as a leading destination for semiconductor investments in the country.
