Greenfield Airport at Dholera Set for Completion by December 2025: Government Update
The Greenfield Airport at Dholera, a key infrastructure project in Gujarat, is now targeted for completion by December 2025, according to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen. V. K. Singh (Retd). Responding to a query from Rajya Sabha MP Narhari Amin, the minister noted that timelines for such projects depend on multiple factors, including land acquisition, statutory clearances, and financial closure.
The upcoming airport will feature:
- Passenger Terminal with a capacity to handle 3.5 million passengers annually.
- 3,200-metre runway, equipped for Code E aircraft operations.
The Government of India granted in-principle approval for the project in January 2016. With an estimated cost of ₹1,305 crore, the airport is being developed by Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL)—a joint venture between Airports Authority of India (51%), Government of Gujarat (33%), and National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (16%).
Once operational, the Dholera airport will significantly boost regional connectivity, support the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), and strengthen Gujarat’s position as a hub for industrial growth and smart city development.
