Focus Shifts to Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway After Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Inauguration
With the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway now open, attention has turned to the highly anticipated Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, a key infrastructure project set to transform connectivity in Gujarat. Spanning 109 km, this high-speed multimodal corridor is expected to be operational by January 2024, linking the nation’s road and rail networks.
Dholera, once a quiet hamlet, is rapidly evolving into India’s first greenfield smart city under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). Designed for seamless connectivity via highways, metro, ports, and an upcoming international airport just 80 km from Ahmedabad, Dholera is already drawing significant investor interest. The new airport aims to ease congestion at Ahmedabad Airport, currently operating at high capacity.
In addition to the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, Gujarat will also benefit from the 1,220 km Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway, the nation’s second-longest, linking major refineries and economic hubs across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
According to project officials, construction is progressing on schedule, with some sections expected to open soon. Infrastructure analysts emphasize that projects like these are vital for sustaining India’s economic momentum, aligning with the government’s goal of accelerating growth through world-class connectivity.
