Dholera Industrial Smart City’s First Phase Nears Completion, Paving Way for Global Investments

Gandhinagar, Dec 18 — The first phase of the Dholera Industrial Smart City, located about 100 km from Ahmedabad, is 95% complete, with land allotment for industries already underway, officials confirmed. Spread over 22.54 sq km, the activation area includes dedicated zones for industries, residential and mixed-use spaces, recreation, social infrastructure, and tourism. Industrial plots ranging from 1 acre to over 330 acres are now being allocated.

During a recent visit ahead of the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reviewed ongoing works and emphasized the city’s strategic focus on emerging sectors like semiconductors and green hydrogen to drive sustainable, technology-led growth.

Dholera SIR will be a key node in the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), with 38% of the DFC route (565 km) passing through Gujarat. The city’s core infrastructure in Phase 1 includes a 50 MLD water treatment plant, a Master Balancing Reservoir, elevated service reservoirs, a 10 MLD sewage treatment plant, and a 20 MLD common effluent treatment plant — all monitored by a central operations center.

Energy needs will be powered by a massive 4,400 MW solar park, developed by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd under the PPP model, contributing to India’s 2030 target of 250 GW renewable energy capacity. Connectivity projects are also progressing rapidly: a four-lane expressway to Ahmedabad is set for completion in 2024, metro rail and multi-modal transport systems are planned, and the Bhimnath-Dholera freight rail line has been approved. The Dholera International Airport, slated for December 2025, will handle 3 lakh passengers and over 20,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

The region is already attracting major investments — ReNew Power is building a solar module and cell plant on 100 acres, Tata Chemicals is setting up a lithium-ion battery manufacturing unit on 126 acres, and Hindustan Petroleum is establishing fuel and EV charging stations. Torrent Power has implemented a robust power distribution network, while 8,500 hectares in the Coastal Regulation Zone have been earmarked for additional solar park development. Positioned as a global manufacturing and innovation hub, Dholera Industrial Smart City is poised to redefine Gujarat’s industrial landscape and strengthen India’s position in the high-tech and clean energy sectors.
