First ‘Made in India’ Chip to Hit Market by December 2024: IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India’s first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip will be available in the market by December 2024. Speaking at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit in New Delhi, Vaishnaw highlighted India’s rapid progress as a global electronics hub, noting that the country is now exporting nearly $1 billion worth of telecom equipment annually.
The Minister clarified that chips from Tata Electronics and CG Power’s upcoming semiconductor facility in Dholera, Gujarat, will debut by December 2026, while Micron’s plant will deliver its first chip by the end of 2024. He expressed confidence that India will rank among the top five global semiconductor ecosystems by 2029.
Addressing the railways sector, Vaishnaw said that before 2014 it was often used as a political tool, but in the last decade, the government has laid a strong foundation for its growth. He added that railway employees are optimistic about the future plans for modernization and expansion.
