Dholera Smart City Nears Completion, Attracts Global Investors

The first phase of the Dholera Industrial Smart City, located about 100 km from Ahmedabad, is on the verge of completion, with land allotment for industries already underway. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently inspected the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) ahead of the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, reviewing progress on world-class infrastructure designed to position Dholera as a global investment hub.

Spanning 22.54 sq km, Phase 1—known as the Activation Area—is 95% complete. It includes designated zones for industries, residential complexes, mixed-use spaces, recreation, social infrastructure, and tourism. Industrial plots from 1 acre to over 330 acres are being allotted to attract large-scale manufacturing and technology companies.

Dholera SIR will be a major beneficiary of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), with 38% of the DFC’s 565 km route passing through Gujarat.

Key infrastructure in Phase 1 features:

  • 50 MLD Water Treatment Plant
  • Master Balancing Reservoir & Elevated Service Reservoirs
  • 10 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)
  • 20 MLD Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP)

On the energy front, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) is developing a 4,400 MW solar park under the PPP model—aligning with India’s target of 250 GW green energy by 2030. With robust connectivity via an upcoming four-lane expressway, freight rail link, metro rail, and Dholera International Airport (operational for cargo by 2025), the city is primed for rapid economic growth. CM Patel emphasized Dholera’s pivotal role in semiconductors, green hydrogen, and high-tech manufacturing, with major investments from ReNew Power, Tata Chemicals, Hindustan Petroleum, and Torrent Power already underway.
