Dholera SIR Set to Emerge as the World’s Premier Manufacturing Hub: Piyush Goyal
Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has expressed strong confidence that the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Gujarat will evolve into one of the world’s best manufacturing and industrial zones.
Speaking at the Investors Round Table Conference in Gandhinagar, Goyal highlighted that by 2024, two key infrastructure projects — Dholera International Airport and the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway — will be fully operational, giving a massive boost to connectivity and industrial growth.
“If I do some crystal-ball gazing, I can clearly see Dholera becoming one of the world’s best manufacturing zones. I have no doubt it will grow faster than Gujarat itself,” Goyal said at the event organized by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), which is spearheading the creation of smart industrial cities across India.
Dholera: The Largest Node of the DMIC
Dholera SIR is one of the 32 planned industrial nodes across 11 industrial corridors, to be developed in four phases. In Phase 1 of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), eight nodes were identified — with Dholera being the largest.
According to Amrit Lal Meena, CEO & MD of NICDC, four major industrial cities have already been developed:
- Dholera SIR (Gujarat)
- Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) (Maharashtra)
- Integrated Industrial Township, Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh)
- Integrated Industrial Township, Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh)
Out of 201 industrial land allotments across these cities, Dholera has allotted four plots spanning 244 acres. The current land price in Dholera is around ₹2,750 per sq. meter, making it more affordable compared to Greater Noida, where land costs ₹16,990 per sq. meter.
Gujarat’s New Industrial Policy on the Horizon
Goyal also revealed that the Gujarat government is preparing to launch a modern industrial policy to further accelerate investment and growth. “The chief minister is working on a forward-looking policy, and it will be announced soon,” he added.
With world-class infrastructure, competitive land pricing, and strong government backing, Dholera SIR is positioning itself as a global magnet for manufacturing and industrial investment.
