Dholera International Airport Construction in Full Swing, Set to Boost Gujarat’s Connectivity
Gujarat, known for its global business and travel connections, is taking a major leap in aviation infrastructure with the rapid development of the Dholera International Airport. Located about 100 km from Ahmedabad, the project is progressing at full pace and is expected to be operational by 2024-25.
The need for a new airport arose due to space constraints at the existing Ahmedabad International Airport, which is situated in the heart of the city and cannot be expanded further. To address the growing domestic and international passenger traffic, the government approved the construction of a world-class Greenfield International Airport near Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), approximately 108 km between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar, at a cost of ₹1,305 crore.
This ambitious project is being executed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat and the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT). The state has allocated over 1,400 hectares of land for the airport, ensuring room for future growth.
In its first phase, the airport will feature a 3,200-meter runway capable of handling Code 4E aircraft, along with advanced facilities to meet global standards. The second phase will extend the runway to 4,000 meters, with a modern terminal building connecting both runways.
A senior project official confirmed that every aspect—from passenger amenities to operational efficiency—is being designed to international benchmarks. Once completed, Dholera International Airport will significantly enhance Gujarat’s connectivity, serving as a key hub for both business and tourism.
