Chip Manufacturing to Begin Soon in Gujarat: CM Bhupendra Patel

Gandhinagar – Gujarat is set to emerge as India’s semiconductor hub, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announcing that chip manufacturing will commence soon in the state. Speaking at the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference 2024 at Mahatma Mandir, the CM assured full government support to investors, highlighting Gujarat’s dedicated semiconductor policy – the first of its kind in India.

Within months of the policy’s rollout in 2020, Micron Technology committed to setting up a plant in Sanand, with land allotted in just one week. Today, global giants including Micron Technology, Tata Electronics (in partnership with Taiwan’s PSMC), and CG Power (with Renesas, Japan) are driving the sector forward.

Key projects underway:
  • Micron Technology – ₹22,500 crore ATMP facility in Sanand, commissioning early 2025.
  • Tata Electronics & PSMC Taiwan – ₹91,000 crore semiconductor fab at Dholera SIR, operational by 2026.
  • CG Power & Renesas Japan – ₹7,600 crore OSAT facility in Sanand, ready by 2025.

The CM noted that Dholera SIR offers plug-and-play infrastructure, making it an ideal semiconductor base. Industry leaders stressed the need for robust infrastructure – uninterrupted power, clean water supply, high-speed rail, quality housing, and direct international flight connectivity.

Tata Electronics CEO Randhir Thakur revealed the fab project will attract over 2,000 ecosystem partners and suppliers and create 20,000+ jobs, making it India’s first greenfield AI-enabled semiconductor fab. With strategic planning, world-class facilities, and global collaborations, Gujarat is positioning itself to be at the forefront of India’s semiconductor revolution.
