Cabinet Approves ₹1,305 Crore Greenfield Airport in Dholera
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of Phase I of the Dholera International Airport in Gujarat at a cost of ₹1,305 crore, to be completed within 48 months.
The project will be executed by Dholera International Airport Company Ltd (DIACL) — a joint venture between the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Government of Gujarat, and National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), holding a 51:33:16 equity ratio.
Spread over 1,501 hectares, the airport will cater to both passenger and cargo traffic for the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), while also functioning as a secondary airport for Ahmedabad, located 80 km away.
Traffic projections:
- Initial capacity: 3 lakh passengers per annum and 20,000 tonnes of cargo (2025–26)
- Long-term: 23 lakh passengers and 2.73 lakh tonnes of cargo annually within 20 years
Positioned to become a major cargo hub for the industrial zone, the airport is expected to be operational by 2025–26, boosting connectivity and economic growth in the region.
