Gujarat is all set to celebrate Uttarayan in grand style, with a historic first—International Kite Festivals at the iconic Statue of Unity and Dholera. This year’s celebrations promise to be bigger and more colorful than ever, marking a spectacular return after a two-year pause due to the pandemic.
International Kite Festival Returns After Two Years
From January 8 to 14, 2023, the Gujarat Tourism Department will host the International Kite Festival across four major urban centers, attracting kite enthusiasts from around the globe. This edition will see over 250 kite flyers from 68 countries, making it a truly global celebration. The event will also embrace the themes of India’s G-20 Presidency and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, blending cultural pride with international camaraderie.
Festival Locations Across Gujarat
Kite festivals will take place at Ahmedabad Riverfront, Vadodara, Vadnagar, Dwarka, Kevadia (Statue of Unity), Somnath, Surat, Rajkot, Dholera, and Dhordo. This marks the first time the grand Kite Mahotsav will be held at the Statue of Unity and Dholera, adding two spectacular venues to Gujarat’s festival map.
A Cultural Extravaganza
Beyond the skies, the festival will be alive with folk performances, live concerts by renowned Gujarati artists, and cultural programs every evening. Visitors can also enjoy kite-making workshops, selfie points, and vibrant stalls showcasing Gujarat’s rich traditions and craftsmanship.
A Kite Lover’s Paradise
Ahmedabad and Surat, known as India’s kite capitals, will once again be the epicenters of excitement. Kite flyers from around the world will bring unique designs and styles, creating a sky painted with colors, patterns, and stories.
The Gujarat Government is pulling out all the stops to make this Uttarayan not just a festival, but an unforgettable cultural spectacle for locals and tourists alike.
