Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway to be Ready by January 2024: India’s First High-Speed Integrated Multi-Modal Corridor
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced that the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway—India’s first high-speed integrated multi-modal corridor—is on track for completion by January 2024.
Spanning 109 km, this greenfield expressway is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹4,200 crore. Designed with a 120-metre width, it allocates 90 metres for the expressway and 30 metres for a future railway corridor. This integration could pave the way for a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) connecting Ahmedabad to Bhavnagar via Dholera.
Once operational, travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera will drop from 2.5 hours to just one hour, with direct connectivity to the Dholera International Airport. The corridor will connect Sarkhej, Dholera SIR, and Sardar Patel Ring Road, providing a major boost to industrial development in the region.
Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR)—a 920 sq. km greenfield smart city within the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor—is poised to be India’s largest planned industrial hub. In June 2022, the Centre approved Phase-I of Dholera’s greenfield airport project at a cost of ₹1,305 crore, further enhancing the region’s strategic importance.
