109 km Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway to be Completed by May 2025: Minister

Ahmedabad: The 109-km Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, being developed by the Central Government, is on track for completion by May 2025, stated Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma in the Gujarat Assembly.

Addressing the assembly, MoS Vishwakarma highlighted the expressway’s sustainable construction methods. Approximately 35 lakh cubic meters of recycled waste from Ahmedabad’s 80-acre dump will be used for embankment construction, clearing 29 acres in the process. Additionally, 173.82 lakh cubic meters of fly ash from various thermal power plants will be incorporated into the project. A green belt spanning both sides of the expressway is planned, with 97,195 trees planted over 97.19 hectares. For wildlife protection, a 4.5m x 7m wildlife crossing has been designed.

The expressway is engineered to accommodate 25,000 vehicles daily, with a maximum speed limit of 120 km/h. Designed for future growth, it will be expandable from four lanes to twelve lanes, and a cloverleaf interchange—similar to Adalaj—is included to improve local connectivity. To link the expressway to Dholera International Airport, a 9.56-km long Greenfield alignment road is planned, with an estimated cost of ₹550.49 crore.

Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) is emerging as a flagship Greenfield industrial smart city, spread over 920 sq km in Ahmedabad district. The first phase covers 153 sq km. Key developments include:

  • ReNew: solar cell and module manufacturing facility
  • Tata Power: 300 MW solar plant
  • Polycab: electronic equipment manufacturing unit
  • Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd.: India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication facility

The project is expected to generate around 8 lakh jobs, reinforcing Dholera SIR’s position as a major industrial hub.

Further infrastructure plans include a freight rail link from Bhimnath to Dholera SIR, the Ahmedabad–Dholera Metro Rail, and a dedicated freight corridor, ensuring seamless connectivity for industrial, commercial, and residential growth.
